Here is an update from Pax’s trainer:

Pax had a rough first night at our house. He was testing his lung capacity. Poor little guy just couldn’t settle. Since then, however, we have made fabulous progress and he collapsed at 8:30 last night (which I feared was too early) and got up about 5:45 this morning. He only whine once in the night to go out. This whole thing is even more amazing when you add that I have moved the crate to the kitchen (it was in our room) and my son came home and was making food around 11.

Pax is doing very well. He is requiring a lot of my time, which I had counted on, but it’s just the reality of it, now. His play sessions often last more than ½ hour with me! He is doing fine with the other dogs, was trying to squish my crested puppy but after a couple “no’s” and removal from the situation he learned to leave her alone and she learned to jump up on the bed or couch!

He has been to the post office, bank, Petsmart and Home Depot! I attached a picture of him in the carrier. He is overflowing it. It says it holds dogs up to 25 lbs but as you can see his 14.4 lbs are hanging out of it! He looks like he is going to be a substantial boy!

I’m enjoying this experience and he is a good boy. Thank you again for the donation.

Pax is going to provide an invaluable service to the community and everyone who loves Pax knows he will do a wonderful job and they are very proud of him.

Formerly Chestie, Pax is now a St. Francis Service Dog and will some day enrich the life of someone with special needs, just as he has touched us and everyone else he’s met. He will be raised and trained partly in the home of a special trainer and partly in a pups in prison program. You can read more about the St. Francis Service Dog program here.

Pax was given his name because it means peace in Latin and he looks absolutely happy to be with his trainer and provide a service to the community.
